Martin Karplus biography and memorial program recording are published
The National Academy of the Sciences has published a biographical memoir of the late Professor Martin Karplus, who passed away on December 29, 2024. Karplus, the Theodore William Richards Professor of Chemistry, Emeritus, was a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and a foreign member of the Netherlands Academy of Arts & Sciences and the Royal Society of London. He received many honors and awards over his long career, including the Nobel Prize in chemistry.
The biographical memoir was written by R.J. Petrella, a post-doctoral fellow, staff scientist and research associate in the Karplus Lab. He is a part-time clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School, an Associate in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and an emergency physician at the Boston VA Medical Center. He has research interests in theoretical immunology, efficiency of dynamics calculations, and statistical methods.
