Richard Liu has been awarded a 2025-27 George W. Merck Fellowship. The fellowship is for a period of two years, through the end of the academic year 2026-27, which comes with $600,000 in support for your research, paid out in equal installments of $300,000 per year.

Following his father’s death in April 2010, George Hatch, Chairman of the John Merck Fund, suggested that the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard develop a program that would provide annual grants to meet critical funding needs of junior untenured faculty. The establishment of The George W. Merck Fellowship Fund determined that these grants would be particularly impactful for Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) and Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB), as each of these departments engages in critically important, collaborative, cutting-edge scientific research.

The Fund serves to bring together faculty and graduate students from both departments in order to spark dialogue, spotlight connections between research goals and processes, and create a collaborative and dynamic environment.
