Arthur C. Cope Award to Stuart Schreiber

On March 18th at the ACS meeting in Dallas, Professor Stuart Schreiber was honored with the Arthur C. Cope Award, given for excellence in organic chemistry. Besides a medal and a cash prize, Cope Award winners also receive an unrestricted research grant of $150,000. The vignette in this week's Chemical & Engineering News describing Schreiber's contributions calls him "the sort of scientist who defies categorization," but Schreiber counters that he is an organic chemist, beyond doubt. His citation reads "For small molecule-based discoveries concerning signal transduction by calcineurin and mTOR and gene regulation by histone deacetylases, and for advancing the field of chemical biology." Congratulations, Professor Schreiber!
