 [Emily Balskus](https://www.microbialchemist.com/), the Morris Kahn Associate Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, has discovered a predator among our ususally symbiotic microbiome. With collaborator Federico Rey, an assistant professor of bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her Lab identified a specific strain of *E. coli* that consumes a valuable nutrient in our gut: choline.
