Nocera Group Wins “Hit the Switch” Competition
In April, Mike Paterno and the FAS Green Program targeted several lab groups in CCB in an energy savings competition. Thanks to the inspired efforts of Dilek Kiper, Nicole Minotti, Anita Pearson and Tracey Schaal of the Nocera, Jacobsen, Shair and Myers groups respectively, lab members were made aware of how long their lights were kept on and given incentives to minimize unnecessary usage over a three-week period, improvements being reported at regular group meetings. More particulars of the competition can be seen on the FAS Green site, but the bottom line was that all four labs were able to lower their light energy consumption by over 35%, saving the university $7000 on an annual basis. The Nocera group posted the winning results, lowering their usage more than 50% and winning the coveted prize: a catered breakfast!
