#  Tom Kempa wins a IUPAC Prize for Young Chemists

Former graduate student (Lieber Group) and now postdoc (Nocera Group) Tom Kempa is the only American to win one of this year's [IUPAC Prizes for Young Chemists](http://www.iupac.org/news/news-detail/article/iupac-announces-winners-of-the-2013-iupac-prizes-for-young-chemists.html). The IUPAC prizes are awarded for the best PhD theses in the chemical sciences, as described in 1000-word essays submitted by the authors. Tom will receive a cash award and travel expenses to attend the IUPAC World Chemistry Congress in August in Istanbul, where he will speak about his thesis research.
