SUMMARY:Olatomiwa O. Bifarin (Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology)
DESCRIPTION:
Title: Machine Learning Unveils the Language of Metabolites

Abstract: Metabolomics, the study of small molecules within biological systems, offers a powerful window into cellular processes and disease states. The rapid growth of metabolomics data has created a pressing need for advanced computational tools to extract meaningful insights. This talk will explore how machine learning/AI is applied in metabolomics research, from identifying biomarkers in cancer to deciphering the vast landscape of metabolomics literature itself using natural language processing techniques.

Bio: Olatomiwa is a President's Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a BSc in Microbiology from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, an MS in Biotechnology from the Catholic University of America, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Georgia. His research interest spans computational metabolomics, cancer metabolism, applied machine learning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP). Currently, he explores building agentic AI systems for scientific research. Outside work, he enjoys playing soccer, reading, creating video essays, developing AI apps, and blogging about AI at theepsilon.substack.com.
