Sponsored by the Provost's Office, and co-sponsored by the Center of Mathematical Sciences and Applications and the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies.<!--break-->Abstract:  Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President Bai will discuss the roles of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in China, especially as they related to the Chinese national strategy of Innovation-Driven Development.  He will also address science and technology institutional reform measures adopted by the Chinese government and China's science and technology community and comment on the unique position of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the national STI system, the CAS Pioneer Initiative, and CAS's current focus on building itself into a world-class science and technology institution.</p>
